so i just started reading comics and i'm kinda starting with new 52 since that's an easy place to start, but why does it seem that everyone hates new 52? or dc in general? i like marvel movies better but dc comics more
Comic book fans are notoriously opposed to change. A lot of the changes in the New 52 are dramatic, poorly thought out, and/or severely unpopular. But in general, as with pre-52, some series are worth reading, and others are not. Personally, I recommend Animal Man, Batwoman, and Wonder Woman.
But yes, The New 52 is most likely the best place for you to start.
Have you met any comic creators? If so, who were you most nervous to meet?
Only a handful, but yes. And okay, here’s where this is about to get real embarrassing. I’d say maybe I was most nervous to meet Lee Bermejo, but here’s the thing: I was completely collected before the fact. I had my Joker book with me, I was ready to go — and then I walk by the table, and I realize that Lee Bermejo is not only absurdly talented, but ridiculously, ridiculously handsome.
So I flustered about like a chicken for a little bit before asking him to sign my book. He was really nice about it even though I was probably really horrid and literally just stood there when he told me he thought it great that my copy was beaten up because it meant I read it. And so I took a picture with him and sometimes I get emotional about it:
So that’s probably #1. I was also, however, physically shaking when I met Adam Hughes, and after I met Stan Lee, I stood there muttering, “Holy shit” under my breath for a few minutes.
